FOUNDING CHURCHES

This is Where Our Story Begins…

Borg Pioneer Memorial Home was founded through the vision and dedication of the early Icelandic-American Lutheran church communities in northeast North Dakota. The six founding church districts—Gardar, Thingvalla, Vidalin, Pjeturs, Hallson, and Vikur—recognized the need for a place where older adults and those in need of care could live with dignity, safety, and Christian compassion.

To ensure continued faith-based guidance and strong community ties, the Home’s Board of Directors was structured to include one representative from each of these six church districts, along with one member-at-large from the wider region. This structure reflects the cooperative spirit and shared purpose that brought Borg into being: to provide a true home and loving care for those who needed it most.

Spiritual Care at Borg Home

At Borg Pioneer Memorial Home, faith and spiritual care remain an important part of daily life. Residents have the opportunity to take part in regular worship services, Mass, devotions, hymn sings, Bible Study, and special seasonal observances throughout the year.

Pastors and volunteers from churches of all denominations visit to lead services, offer communion, share music, and provide personal ministry. Whether through prayer, song, or quiet reflection, these moments of faith bring comfort, connection, and peace to our residents and staff.

Borg Home continues its long tradition of welcoming spiritual care as an essential part of whole-person well-being—nurturing body, mind, and spirit in a home where all are valued and supported.
